Courses:

Great Waters Course
Designed by Jack Nicklaus, features nine holes that play directly along the lake shoreline. Former host of the Andersen Consulting World Championship, the course is ranked #7 in the state by Golf Digest and #3 by GOLFWEEK. Anytime Jack Nicklaus unveils one of his signature courses, it is big news in the golf world. But in the fall of 1992, when Great Waters at Reynolds Plantation opened, it stirred a rush of excitement within the golf community that was extraordinary, even by Nicklaus standards.  The Great Waters Course, a 7,048-yard, par 72 layout, offers players some of the most dramatic golf scenery in the Southeast. With nine holes lining the shores of Lake Oconee, Great Waters offers both exciting challenges and beautiful views.  I have often wondered if Nicklaus thought of Pebble Beach when he designed # 18, a 540-yard par-5. There’s no seawall or cliffs, but there sure is a lot of water. Try to get on in two.

Plantation Course
This track is a 6698-yard, par-72 layout designed by Bob Cupp in association with Fuzzy Zoeller and Hubert Green. This course has been ranked among the top 15 in state by GOLFWEEK.   I’ve played other courses designed by the three collaborators, but never all three of them together. Talk about multiple personalities. Golf Magazine has ranked the Plantation Course, a 6,698-yard, par 72 from the gold tees, among the "Ten Best New Courses."  The Plantation course is characterized by a natural, rolling layout that possesses innumerable subtleties. Says Charley Stine of Golfweek, "The hills are natural to the terrain, but the funny lies and funny bounces result from the ingenuity of shaping during construction." Many of the pleasures of play here have little to do with swings and scores and much to do with the magnificence of the setting.

National Course
How about another course ranked in the top 10 of Georgia courses. It’s designer, Tom Fazio couldn’t wipe the smile off his face as he drove through the gates of the property.  He took maximum advantage of the site, creating holes with drama and beauty equal to the setting. Opening in 1997, it is amazing how mature the course looks. Boasting 27-holes, The National features impressive elevations, wonderful views and several holes skirting the shores of Lake Oconee. The site, with dense forests of hardwoods, pines, flowering wild dogwoods and some of Lake Oconee's most dramatic lakefront topography, provides a perfect canvas for the artistry of Tom Fazio, one of golf's premier modern architects.

The Oconee Club
Rees Jones, well known for designing some of the world's most celebrated golf courses, is adding The Oconee course at Reynolds Plantation to his growing collection of outstanding golf course projects. Clearly this idyllic Georgia sanctuary provides a pure, undisturbed setting for an authentic golf experience. With his traditional philosophy of golf architecture that features strategic design, Jones has created a classical masterpiece. This course will make you talk to yourself. You can't believe the beauty of it all.  It has outstanding views of the lake and water comes into play on five holes.  Including the 15th, a cute little par 3 that is not so cute when the wind blows. Rees Jones is a welcome addition to the family of Reynolds Plantation designers. He adds hi thoughts, "We have uncovered a dramatic golf course without changing a lot of what we found when we got here."

The Club at Cuscowilla
This track is not included in the Reynolds Plantation family of courses, but if you're this close, you have to play it. Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, Cuscowilla may be the best of all the Lake Oconee courses. This 7 year old course is already ranked the 10th Best Modern Course in America by GOLFWEEK. It winds through rolling meadows and valleys of pine, playing across several interior ponds. The most celebrated holes, however, are those that start the second nine. They play beside and carry the lake across an inlet. It may be a modern course, but it has such a traditional, natural look. The bunkers feature jagged edges and native clay soil base. A vigorous caddie program gives you an opportunity to enjoy a great round of golf and a walk in the park.
