The Legends at Chateau Élan
Home to the former Sarazen World Open Championship, The Le gends
was designed by legendary greats Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead and Kathy
Whitworth. Each of the legends worked with Denis Griffiths on 6 holes
and gave him their ideas of each holes. Certainly noticeable at The
Legends is the tribute to traditional golf course architecture of the
early 1900's. What a thrill it must have been for Griffiths.
Playing this track is quite a thrill as well. The Legends is an
exclusive private club that gracefully winds through the heart of
Château Élan and you can experience it!
Chateau Course
Deni s
Griffiths cut his designer's teeth on this outstanding example of
utilizing the natural terrain to build a golf course. The Course opened
in July of 1989 and winds along three lakes and two creeks. Water
comes into play on 10 of the 18 holes while 87 bunkers give definition
and character to the Bermuda fairways and smooth bent grass greens.
Built on 170 acres of the finest terrain, the 7,030-yard layout of The
Château course plays to a par 71. Golf Digest rated this track
4-stars. This is a wonderful resort course with excellent range
facilities. You'll need to hit accurate shot or you'll end up in
trouble.
The Woodlands
Course
Opening in 1996, this course is one of
the top-notch tracks in Georgia.
Experience drops of 70 feet and rises of more than 40 feet on this
rolling course. Three years in the making, Denis Griffiths showed a
great understanding of sculpting and utilizing the landscape. The
Woodlands features a true nine-holes out and nine-holes in, moving
effortlessly from pasture to forest to water. The tree-lined fairways
are narrow and tend to favor the player with solid tee shots. Because of
the hilly terrain, be prepared for some uneven lies. There are no
'let-up' holes on this track. The greens on this course are as
undulating as the other courses, but they are slightly larger. Golf
Digest rated this track an outstanding 4½ stars.
Bear’s Best - When it
comes to building golf courses, there may few designers that can compare
to Jack Nicklaus.
In
Atlanta, he gave us a collection of his favorite holes. The layout is
comprised of holes from notable courses such as Gleneagles, Mount
Juliet, Muirfield Village, Old Works, PGA "Championship" Course, TPC of
Michigan, and Sherwood Country Club. Beginning at number one, an elegant
and simple downhill par-4 from St. Mellion in England, and continuing
through number five, the routing rides the terrain out to a lower sector
of the property where the next six holes run out and back over the
flatlands along the Chattahoochee River. Holes 12 through 18 wander
through the hills back toward the clubhouse, culminating in a monstrous
par-4, the 18th at Castle Pines in Denver. One remarkable aspect of
Bear's Best Atlanta is that in spite of its necessarily disparate parts
the course plays amazingly complete, gracefully even. While there are
different bunker styles and varying green sizes and shapes from green to
tee there's nary a flinch of reaction -- it's just one solid hole after
another. Against the notoriously rugged North Atlanta countryside the
routing remains gentle and overall the course is rather forgiving; even
from the championship tees Bear's Best plays quite shorter than its
6,857 yards. In addition to golf carts, Bear’s Best has fore caddie
program that will make your round even more enjoyable. Located 40
minutes from downtown Atlanta. |
