Bear Trap Dunes
This co urse is situated on 170 lush acres and features
spacious, winding fairways, expansive beach sand dunes and creative
landscaping. Designed by Rick Jacobson, one of Jack Nicklaus'
designers and with this track, he has already created a name for
himself. Water hazards, in the form of large ponds, come into play
on twelve holes. A favorite is #7, a 423-yard, par 4 that doglegs
left with water protecting the entire left side and bunkers at the
dogleg. Stay out of trouble with your drive then your approach sends
you to a bunkered narrow green.
Baywood Greens
The beauty surrounds this place and engulfs it.
With an environmental irrigation system that covers all parts of the
greens, fairways and rough, this course stays in first rate condition at
all times. The course is so manicured and pristine it is a pleasure
to play, look at and often times cuss at. Designed by Ault, Clark
& Associates, Baywood is building a nine at a time. The Woodside
Course opened in 1998 and offers generous fairways and manicured
greens. the signature hole is #6, a 233-yard, par 3, which
plays over tidal wetlands to a well-protected green. The
Lakeside nine opened in 2000 and the remaining Duneside Course will be
ready in 2002.
The Bay Club, West Course
The first of the two courses to open (1989), was
designed by Russell Roberts and he cut it into the woods and he created
excellent challenges. Golfers can test their skills and courage at
hole #14, a 189-yard, par 3, called "Devil's Island", which is
know as the area's original island green. The most interesting thing
about this track is the 100 yard wide double green for #9 and #18.
This is the only green like it on the East Coast. It is a fitting finish
to the par 5's. The "Green Monster" will make you scratch your
head and get a cold one soon after your putt.
The Bay Club, East Course
One of the interesting things about this facility is
that it is the only one in the area to be designed, built, owned and
operated by PGA golf professionals... and they know their business.
This track, designed by Charles Priestly in 1998, was voted as one of the
"Best New Courses" by Golf Digest.
Nine holes are tight with tall pine trees while the other nine holes are
more open and call for target golf. The signature hole is #8, a
225-yard, par 3, featuring sand bunkers that surround three sides of the
green and creates its own island effect.
