Shipyard Plantation
This 27-hole layout is the only course not located within a good tee
shot from y our
lodging, but is worth the ten minute trip. It wanders through tall
pines, magnolias and moss-draped oaks and is the former home of the
Hilton Head Seniors International. Designed by George Cobb & Willard
Byrd. Two of the three inter-connecting nines are combined for a unique
and challenging 18-hole round. The original Clipper and Galleon courses
create an exciting combination of long fairways and perilous hazards,
while the Brigantine course winds its way around lagoons and
breathtaking terrain. Adding to the beauty are the many lagoons and
ponds, but the also added to the challenge and is home to many
alligators.
Port Royal is home to 54
holes of legendary golf and a beautiful antebellum clubhouse located on
one of Hilton Head Islands' most pristine plantations. All courses start
and end at the plantation house. One course is closed for the members
each day while the other two are available to guests. This
award-winning club has hosted the PGA Hilton Head Seniors International
and has been ranked as one of the "Top 75 U.S. Golf Resorts" by Golf
Digest. Port Royal features three uniquely challenging 18-hole
championship golf courses and a Racquet Club that is heralded as one of
the "Top 50 Greatest U.S. Tennis Resorts" by Tennis Magazine. Its 16
courts showcase all three Grand Slam surfaces. The new course
superintendent has this place looking the best it’s been in years.
Barony Course
This George Cob b
& Willard Byrd collaboration will challenge you with greens guarded by
deep bunkers and Bermuda rough. Although the track appears to be
relatively open, the real test is your approach. This is a course
where, accuracy not length is paramount. The layout ranges from 5183
yards to 6543, so don’t try to over power it. Some of the holes on this
course play along the ocean, so count on wind affecting your shots.
Planter's Row
Designed by Willard Byrd, this track has rolling tree-lined fairways.
Water co mes
into play on several holes, and its large and undulating greens require
a skilled touch. Great finishing hole that only measures 480 yards, but
with a narrow landing areas even your second shot can end up in the
trees on the left or water on the right. By the time you get to this
hole, you will finally realize, this is a shot maker's course and also
why the PGA Senior Tour played here in the 80’s. .
Robber's
Row
Redesigned in 1994 b y
Pete Dye, cuts through beautiful stands of magnolias and live oaks.
Approach shots require accuracy to the well-bunkered greens. This is a
very scenic course with a set of four very challenging par 3's. If you
have a fade, you'll love this course. The doglegs turn from left to
right. Rich in history, Robber's Row is set atop former
Civil War grounds on the marsh side of the plantation and features
historical markers on several holes describing events relevant to the
area. Although tee-shot landing areas are quite generous, approach shots
require accuracy to the well-bunkered greens.
