Southern Hills Golf Club
Selected among the "Top 25 New Courses in the United State s
in 1998", this course has only gotten better. When you pull in and see a
trailer as the pro shop on a three years old track, you know they have
spent special attention to the course. You'll experience rolling terrain
and elevation changes of over 130 feet. Ponds and creeks are found
throughout the layout and they create some very challenging decisions.
Designed by Mike Young and shaped by Ernest Jones and the Dunaway
Family, this course formerly hosted the Hooters NGA Tour
Houston Lake Country Club
This course features hilly
terrain and water hazards that come into play on thirteen holes. This
well maintained, well established track was designed in 1963 by O.C.
Jones and reflects the relaxed atmosphere of country clubs of the 60's.
Playing only 6745 yards from the back tips, you will use every club in
your bag. Because of the water hazards, you must play a smart game or
drown trying. As you wind your way around the shores of picturesque
Houston Lake, you can be distracted by the beauty. The 18th was voted as
one of the Best 18 Holes in the State by The Atlanta
Journal-Constitution. Two shots across the lake are required to reach a
green that is well-protected by bunkers. What a finish!
Perry Country Club
If you have time upon arrival, then this is the place for you. The
course is relatively
flat,
so walking is quite pleasurable and the 6500 yard length will not kill
you. The course features small greens that are fast. Three ponds come
into play on five holes, including #6, a 484-yard, par 4. The water runs
down the right side of the fairway on the first half of the hole, then
cuts across in front of the green. Another interesting element of this
course is that you finish both nines with par 3's.
Perry Country Club was
incorporated on June 8, 1951, when the charter was accepted by a meeting
of incorporators, several of whom are still active members of the Club.
The original tract of land for the first nine holes comprised 70 acres. The
Grand Opening of the new nine holes was held on Labor Day 1970. In
August of 1992 the Club suffered a terrible disaster when the clubhouse
was destroyed by fire. A new clubhouse was designed, constructed and
opened in the fall of 1993. Now
that you know the history, you have to play the course.
