Eagle's Landing Country Club
Here is a
special treat for you … a Tom Fazio course, private and very exclusive.
Former home of the LPGA Tour Chick-fil-A Charity Tournament, Eagle’s
Landing
has such a diverse combination of holes, I guarantee you that you are in
for the challenge of your life. Fazio says, “I’d rank it as good as any
course I’ve done.” The variety of the topography is remarkable. Some
holes feel like a Carolina Coastal course while others are similar to a
Florida style and then you have the hilly, rolling terrain that is north
Georgia. A great challenge is the 207-yard Par 3 at #8. A creek
guards the left side and it’s an instant bogey if you drive into the
bunker guarding the right side. My other favorite hole is actually the
18th, which plays over water to a narrow fairway, then to a
green cut into the hillside below one of the classiest clubhouse that
ever existed.
Georgia National Golf Club
One of Denis Griffith's
best yet! Built in 1994, this track features rolling terrain with
streams, ponds and an abundance of pines and hardwoods. The course
features ample landing areas and the bent grass greens are fast and full
of subtle breaks. Starting with a par 5 that is a gamble to reach in
two, Georgia National takes it easy on you on the front nine, but nails
you hard with #10. Brutal is the term used for this 451 yard par 4 that
plays 30 yards longer than posted. This club has recently gone
'private', but this is a great chance to play it.
The Crystal Lake Golf & Country Club
This brand new Denis Griffith design is refreshingly unique compared to
other courses in the Atlanta area. The course measures 7203 yards and
features multiple tees for all levels
of play. Grass-walled bunkers with pristine white sand and greens that
are generous, subtle and approachable are key features at every hole.
The course also promotes creative shot strategy as it has been built
among a multitude of hardwood trees and is lined with creeks, lakes and
native southern wetlands. The tee boxes, fairways and roughs are lushly
covered in Bermuda, promoting higher ball elevation, faster divot
recovery. The putting greens are Bent grass and the perimeter roughs and
bunker faces are reminiscent of many legendary Scottish designs. Crystal
Lake is sure to provide an enjoyable and memorable experience. It’s
greatest challenge is how Griffith seemed to hide many of the landing
areas behind bunkers and subtle changes in elevation. Even the designer
said some of them “will make you scratch your head” as you try to figure
out the line to take off the tee. It really isn’t as bad as it sounds;
this is a very fun track.
Cotton Fields Golf Club
Right dwon I-75 you'll discover your own piece of golf heaven. The
Cotton Field s
Golf Club. In McDonough, Georgia, at exit 218 - a public course designed
on 150 acres of scenic farmland, now transformed into a premier 18 hole
golf club offering many exciting features. The Cotton Fields Golf Club.
Scenic Georgia farm land. Rich soil that grew some of the South's best
cotton. And now, proudly, home to one of the South's most exciting golf
courses. This is a fun little course that makes your round kind of
challenging with its number of small lakes and tiered and undulating
greens. Designed by the owner, Jerry Schwendinger, this track may look
like a plum ready for picking. The design philosophy was to build a
track that will offer a pleasant day on the links and not kill you, but
if you do not manage your game, you will be very disappointed. The par 4
second may ruin your round before it even gets going. You must be long
off the tee or plan on laying up before the green protected by one of
the many pesky lakes.
